Whistle Down the Wind

A collection of pictures from the film 'Whistle Down the Wind'. Filmed in the 1960's around Pendle Hill and Clitheroe.

The storyline is that of a young girl (Hayley Mills) who mistakes an escaped murderer (Alan Bates) for Christ returned to earth.
Stars Hayley Mills, Alan Bates, Bernard Lee, Norman Bird, Diane Clare, Patricia Henagahn, John Arnatt , Elsie Wagstaff and introduced locals Alan Barnes, Diane Holgate, Roy Holder and Barry Dean plus a whole bunch of enthusiastic kids from around the area.

BBC Filming Born and Bred Downham
A collection of pictures from the television series of Born and Bred taken when filming was taking place in and around Downham village.

The storyline is set in the 1950's and covers the lives of a local Doctor (James Bolam) and his son (Michael French) .
Characters: Arthur - James Bolam, Tom - Michael French, Deborah - Jean Russell, Rev. Brewer - Clive Swift, Phyllis - Maggie Steed, Wilf - John Henshaw, Jean - Naiomi Radcliffe, Eddie - Samuel Hudson, Linda -Tracey Childs and not forgetting the good folks of Downham who played themselves.

Nativity Tableau Castle Grounds
A collection of Images from the Nativity Tableau performed in the Castle grounds Monday 22nd December 03.

Featuring the 'Clitheroe Town Band', who set the scene with rousing carols at the Castle Gates, Moor Lane, then led the participating folk of Clitheroe in a procession to the Castle Bandstand. More carols were then performed, helped with good voice and gusto from the audience, while the Nativity Tableau was acted out. Mulled wine and Mince pies followed the performance and enjoyed by all.

Castle Labyrinth Launch
Castle grounds Labyrinth launch ceremony 24th August 2006.

Civic and community leaders gathered for the opening of the Clitheroe Castle Labyrinth which was designed by land artist Jim Buchanan in collaboration with Ribble Valley community groups and schools. The unique project is a result of a partnership between Ribble Valley Borough Council, the market town initiative, Clitheroe the Future and the creative arts project Land. Ribble Valley Mayor Peter Ainsworth officially opened the labyrinth attended by council leaders and civic guests including High Sherrif of Lancashire, Peter Robinson, as well as Jim Buchanan and representatives of the funding bodies.
