Street Audit: Chester Avenue Long Stay Car Park.

Issues Found;

• Lack of a Town Map showing where to find local amenities.

Recommendations:

A Town map with directions and local information could be sited alongside the two ticket dispensers.

Advertise the fact that a season ticket for parking can be obtained from the Council Offices at a very reasonable rate.

• Flowerbeds are not planted up and the brickwork is in need of repair. Some divider wall brickwork is in need of repair. The aspect of much needed maintenance in the car park makes the area very unsightly and is not very welcoming for a visitor to Clitheroe.      

Recommendations:

There are two options, either plant up the flowerbeds and maintain them or remove them and create up to eight further bays for parking. Carry out repairs to all dividing walls.

• Wasted space in and around the Car Park.

Recommendations:

Move the railings towards the roadside to create more parking spaces.
Remove the flowerbed and create more parking spaces and continue the theme of the railings.
Have a fresh look at redesigning the layout of the car park to better utilise actual car parking spaces as there does seem to be some redundancy.

• Signage to the Chester Avenue long stay car park is often misleading for a visitor to the town. There is no long stay car park if you turn left into King Street from Railway View Road. The other sign cannot be seen sufficiently when driving a car up or down Railway View Road for the turn under the bridge.

Recommendations:

Alter the sign to read Short Stay Car Parking.

Adjust the sign to be more visible to moving traffic from both directions.
